So, this weekend I'm going to post about Sarah Palin's speech and the sexism issue and Sarah Palin's policies -and also why John McCain shouldn't ever be forced to make a speech and how if the worst of the worst occurs and he does win the presidency, he should really think about taking a page from Jefferson's book and sending Congress a letter in lieu of actually presenting the State of the Union to them (and us). But this video was too good not to share right now:
Jon Stewart once again does his thing, and does it well. The hypocrisy, it runs rampant. I pretty much hate all of these people. No, Sarah Palin should not be getting sexist comments made about her. No, the age of her children should not be a factor in her readiness to be vice president. But feminism isn't a mantle we can pick up when it is someone we like being harmed, to be put back down again when we want to truly diminish another woman we don't like nearly as much. Feminism -and critiquing sexist comments- should not be utilized in such a manner, because it politicizes sexism and makes sexism into something that could only possibly happen to people we like. If it happens to people we don't like, well, some women really are white bitches (or so I'm told):
So, Republican talking heads, please please please just stop. Please. I'm begging you. If you're defending Sarah Palin against sexist attacks, do us all a favor and make sure you haven't made those exact same kinds of attacks mere months ago. If you had, you can still defend Palin. But first, you kind of have to apologize for and take ownership of the same demeaning crap you fostered on other women. Because now, you're just being disingenuous.
