This American Life

If anyone gets a chance to see the encore theatre presentation of This American Life's live show on May 7, I would highly recommend it.

Ooh I went last night! Just another fun thing we have in common! :) Of course judging from the lineup which included Joss Whedon I'm sure it shouldn't come as a surprise...

That is so awesome! I thought the show was fantastic, and Dan Savage was seriously in danger of making me all out bawl. Plus, I love Mike Birbiglia. I've loved him since he almost killed me at work one day when he was on This American Life.

What's this Mike Birbiglia story, then? I hadn't heard of him until this show, but was definitely charmed by his story. And ditto on the Dan Savage story- I don't think I was the only one sniffling during that story in my theater.

"What's this Mike Birbiglia story, then?"

He was explaining how he sometimes said things he shouldn't, and he demonstrated that by telling about how he was moving a bedframe into his new apartment building, and this woman held the door open for him. And so he said, "Thank you", and she said, "No problem. That doesn't look like a bedframe a rapist would have." And he said, "At that point, what I should have said - was nothing. What I actually said was, 'You'd be surprised'. And what do you say after that? 'See you around the apartment building?'"

And it was awesome, and I nearly died.
