You...Don't joke about the 50 days of Christmas. You never know when a network planner is listening.

If they made better Christmas movies, I'd almost be okay with that! But no, instead they play a The Prince & Me sequel to the sequel with different actors from both the first original film and first sequel, and expect me to count it as a Christmas film because they throw a little yuletide in there. Where is The Santa Clause???

Though, truthfully, I think very few children would notice or care so long as they get their Droid phones and Netbooks and copies of Modern Warfare 2 ... criminy, every year I sound like I've aged a decade. Yo...Don't joke about the 50 days of Christmas. You never know when a network planner is listening.

As for A Christmas Carol, it's more of a movie about the values associated with Christmas than about the holiday itself. As they say, the idea is to keep the spirit of Christmas (specifically charity and goodwill) in your heart throughout the year.

As far as how religious some of these Christmas specials are, I seem to remember the Prancer movies as laying particularly heavy on those themes.

It would be interesting to see America try to have a year with only Christmas-themed Christmas decorations. No fir trees, no mistletoe, no yule logs, no snowmen. I'd even say there should be no Santa Claus, since his entire schtick is just piggy-backing on what was an established holiday way before his time.
